David’s long-standing relationship with the brand began when he joined the BirdGuides sightings team in summer 2013. Since then, he has made numerous written contributions to both Birdwatch and BirdGuides, most recently through his monthly magazine column.
David’s deep knowledge and attention to detail, combined with his experience and passion as a birder, editor and proofreader, will make him a great asset to the team, and Birdwatch will be in safe hands with him at the helm.
“The job keeps me tapped into identification challenges and debates, and means my finger is firmly on the pulse in terms of what’s moving,” David said.
“In a way, it feels like I’m vicariously birding the whole country through BirdGuides contributors and the wider internet. If a difficult bird is posted, it’s a chance to test and expand my knowledge.”
He replaces Josh Jones, who is stepping aside from magazine duties to focus more on strategic business development.
Josh said: “It has been an honour to head up the output of Birdwatch since May 2022, but the time has come to hand on the baton. David’s deep knowledge and attention to detail – as a birder, editor and proofreader – will be a great asset to the team and Birdwatch has an exciting future ahead with him at the helm.”
